Elk Hunts

Experience the thrill of a spine-tingling bugle cutting through the crisp air of dawn. You'll shiver with excitement because you know you're in for an unforgettable day of hunting! The elk abound in The Huston Park Wilderness, so your chance for a successful hunt is high.

September archery season! You'll hear elk trumpeting all through the woods, sometimes at night and within bowshot of your tent. It is a challenge that will electrify you -- a haunting sound you'll dream about for weeks afterward that will draw you to Wyoming again and again to hunt the magnificent Rocky Mountain elk.

Morning wake-up is between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. and starts off with a home-style breakfast and good strong coffee. You'll pick up your lunch and head out for a day of hunting. When you return, you'll warm up by the stove and be tempted by the aromas of dinner being prepared. While this whets your appetite, you can enjoy lively conversation around the stove.

Rifle season opens in October. We offer cow hunts and elk hunts by 4x4-pickup. Cow tags must be applied for in specific area number. Feel free to give us a call and we can help you decide which area is best for you. Usually, cow tags run the entire month, but the Wyoming Game and Fish can change that at any time.

Bull tags are a general license and usually start on the 15th of October and run through the 31st. Most years you can shoot either sex during the first five days of the season. We pack into camp on the 14th, and have five great days of hunting, viewing incredible scenery, and an awesome wilderness experience. We usually head back down on the 20th, or sooner if you have been successful.

Your living quarters while hunting will be clean, 14x16-foot tents with five-foot walls, a wood stove that will burn all night, a relaxing 4-inch-thick foam pad to sleep on, and carpet on the floor.

Our dining tent has nearly all the comforts of home -- a large eating table, bright propane lights, comfortable chairs, and an exceptional cook who enjoys the wilderness experience with us every year. If you have any special dinner requests, please, let us know before you arrive.
